1.DETERMINANTS IN THE EXPATRIATE ADJUSTMENT PROCESS

Dear Expatriate,

Thank you very much in advance for your participation in this important survey. An international assignment is more than just a change of job. Expatriates often have to adapt to specific local conditions in the host country and deal with various cultural differences, which might hinder the adaptation. This study, conducted by the Chair of International Management at the University of Passau (Germany), investigates the adjustment process to different institutional and cultural circumstances. A more detailed picture on the adaptation process in the host country might help expatriates to adapt faster. Furthermore it may show companys how, and in which areas they could support their expatriates in conducting an international assignment.

We are certainly aware that expatriates have to cope with a high workload, since they have to meet the requirements and demands of numerous stakeholders at the same time. Therefore the study is designed to take only a minimum of 15 minutes of your time. For the success of this study, however, not only your support is vital, but also the participation of your life partner and team leader, supervisor or project director. We therefore ask you to forward the links on the last page of this questionnaire to the corresponding person. Thus, we are able to include their adjustment experience into our investigation. 

Be assured that your identity is fully protected and the information is kept confidential. We will evaluate the data without name and address, neither of you and your life partner nor of your team leader, supervisor or project director. Please answer the questions as honestly and carefully as possible. There is no right or false answer. Of course, you will receive, if desired, a report with the results of this study.
